Election at Rudston!

Rudston Election

Candidates get involved in an exciting contest

Close result!

Upper 4 have been learning about democracy in Personal, Social and Health Education. As part of our exploration we decided to have our own election. So many people volunteered to be candidates that we had to pull names out of a hat to be fair! The five candidates are seen here on the left before the contest began. Standing on a box each candidate delivered a speach outlining what they would do if elected to the School Council. The crowd were very lively but the candidates coped admirably with the heckling and got their messages across.

After the campaigning we had hustings where candidates sat in front of the class and took questions about their beliefs. Members of the form then took over to run the voting section with real ballot papers and actual voting and counting. The presiding officer then read out the results, just as on election night! It was a really close contest so they agreed a re-count! Well done everybody! We had a lot of fun and at the same time learned more about democracy in action and especially elections.

The photographs tell their own story.
